Algerian nationals have voiced frustration over the increasing difficulty of securing French visa appointments through official and legal channels. Many applicants attribute this issue to the rise of a black market for visa slots and the inadequate services provided by outsourcing companies, according to Schengen.News.
Reports indicate that approximately 1,200 Algerians apply for French visas daily for purposes such as tourism, family visits, and medical travel. However, a significant number of applicants report facing major obstacles in the process. Complaints suggest that intermediaries and agencies are monopolizing available appointments and reselling them on the black market at exorbitant prices.
Visa appointments are allegedly being sold for as much as €138—an amount that is disproportionately high given the country’s minimum wage. In addition to hoarding appointments, these agencies are also openly promoting their services online. Applicants have pointed out that social media platforms are being used as advertising spaces for these illicit transactions, yet authorities have not taken concrete action to address the issue.
Concerns Over Outsourcing Companies
Beyond black market activities, Algerians seeking Schengen visas have also raised concerns about the performance of visa outsourcing companies. Many applicants have taken to social media to express dissatisfaction, reporting that they struggle to access appointment booking systems due to persistent website issues.
One applicant shared their frustration, saying:
"I've been trying for three months without success; the website is always blocked."
Others echoed similar experiences and urged authorities to intervene, emphasizing the unfair nature of the current situation.
French Consul General Urges Caution
In response to the growing concerns, Bruno Clerc, the French Consul General in Algiers, recently issued a warning to Algerian applicants. He advised them to avoid dealing with intermediaries charging high fees and instead use only authorized platforms and official outsourcing services.
As part of new measures, Capago International has been designated as the sole authorized outsourcing company for French visa appointments. The company is set to begin providing services for Algerian applicants starting April 8, 2025.
